I'm Alive!

...not that this is a shocker to anyone. I've just been busy the last week with family stuff. My cousin Mike was in for most of last week and we had some good times. I get along with him better then any of my other cousins (probably because he and I are only a year apart). He's trying to make it big on the acting scene, so I wish him the best of luck. I promise I'll make it down to Orlando to see one of your shows soon, cuz! Maybe I can make a road trip out of it and bring a friend or two along with me.

No new developments on the job front yet, not that I could of made it to any interviews lately anyways. The battery in my truck seemingly died on friday, but I tinkered around with it this evening and got it to work. Baking Soda is a godsend when you have a corroded battery.

In gaming news, I hit 56 today with my Rogue in World of Warcraft. Stratholme, hear I come! Once I'm through with you I want my Shadowcraft Armor.

WoW sucks, CoH is where it's at, biatch! Actually, I was thinking about giving WoW a whirl, but I don't even really have time for CoH. I've been playing my main on CoH for over a year and he's still only at 41. Oh well... Good luck with everything.

Meh, CoH was fun... for about a week. Ryan and I played our free trial way back at launch, but got bored pretty fast. The gameplay is great. The graphics are pretty cool. The dialogue for some of the quests/tasks are good. For some reason though it just gets really tedious. It's like they took your everyday MMO, stripped it of its substance, and just kept the core. In other words, it's shallow. Maybe City of Villains will make it better, but I don't think that's enough to get me to leave WoW. If you do decide to give WoW a try then you can find me on Scarlet Crusade. I have several characters, so just let me know at a later date and I'll give you my aliases.

Well, I guess I'm not sure how into RPGs I really am. I like the leveling aspects, but crafting seems horribly tedious. I also don't like having my character's appearance tied in with my equipment. CoH just seems to be much more free as far as creativity goes.

As far as shallowness... I guess I don't really have anything to compare it to. Like, when I played the Baldur's Gate type RPGs on the Xbox, I mostly just cared about getting more powers and improving powers. I mostly just skipped past all the text and such.

Also, I don't really like having to depend on a guild. I like teaming and do it as often as I can, but having to rely on a guild to advance... Not my cup of tea. I don't think that's as bad in WoW as others, but, from what I read, I think CoH is probably the least guild-dependent.

My friend Ryan is just like you. He usually skips over the text in order to get things moving. I guess I'm the opposite - I like to immerse myself in the world that's been created. Regardless, WoW is pretty different from your standard MMO.

Guilds are not necessary at all to advance, but rather they are a good source of information. I'm in a guild that has a great group of people and I know that I can depend on them if I need their help with a quest. With that being said, it is conceivable for any class to level to 60 (the current level max) by themselves without ever having to group. Of course, if you want some of the better armors/weapons/trinkets you will have to group up with others.

There's not much one can do about their appearance being independent from their armor. However, I will say that WoW has done a good job of making several different armor palettes. Their are many options at any given level to change your appearance. This allows for a large range of diversity.

In the end WoW is the ideal MMO for those like you. It is far from being story driven (although I will admit that a lot of the quests have good storylines), it is extremely solo-friendly, crafting is completely optional, PvP is very enjoyable (but also optional), and the sheer amount of content in the game blows away most other MMOs on the market (excluding Everquest and its 100 billion expansions).

There is a free trial out there somewhere, so the least you can do is give it a try.

It's not outside the realm of possibility. I just have to find the time. A few of my friends tried out WoW, but are going to return for CoV. I'll see how CoV is and then decide. Or maybe at least until I finally hit 50 with someone...
